Szlovén téli leves - Ricet

 Ingredients 
  • 30 dag barley
  • 2 liters water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon minced parsley
  • 2 ribs chopped celery
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 sliced carrots
  • 1 tomato
  • dash pepper
  • 2 tablespoon lard
  • 2 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cube broth
  • 30 dag smoked meat

Preparation
  • Place washed barley and smoked meat in salted water or broth and bring to a boil. Boil 60 minutes. 
  • Add garlic, parsley, celery , onion, carrots, bay leaf, tomato and pepper and cook until tender. 
  • Heat the lard, add flour and brown. 
  • Add to the barley mixture and simmer another 10 minutes. Care must be taken that it does not burn. If desired, you may add 1 cup of cooked navy or roman beans or 1 cup sauerkraut, last half hour of cooking.
